Even More of Your Money is Needed to Save the North Shore

This article documenting the bids for the light-rail tunnel to the North Shore is infuriating.

Apparently, the money taxpayers foot for the two stadiums on the North Shore isn't enough to spur economic development. Weren't those stadiums supposed to be a boon to the city of Pittsburgh? Now the construction of a pair of twin tunnels underneath the Allegheny River "is considered a key to continuing development between PNC Park and Heinz Field."

The project will cost an estimated $393 million (mostly in federal funds) and we all know that it will end up costing a hell of a lot more. Already, the lowest bids for digging the tunnels are coming in well above the estimated cost. The pork that Sen. Santorum proudly bestowed upon Pittsburgh is a wasteful project that will serve as nothing more than a people mover for Steeler games eight times a year. Walk across the bridges you fat asses.

getting people from downtown to the northshore area is retarded. no one wants to spend any time in either area. put a train running from oakland to downtown and it MIGHT help. pittsburgh doesnt need fat, suburban yinzers coming down, as matt pointed out, 8 times a year for football games. it needs the younger people from the oakland area to have an interest in going the the struggling areas such as downtown and the stadium area. make it easy and fast for them to get to the garbage the old people running pittsburgh think they want and it might work. the biggest problem pittsburgh has is that the people running it design it for people like themselves, and they are retarded.

As someone who works dahntahn i think it's a brilliant idea. Those 8 days are the only time anyone from the burbs comes here anyway, except of course if their looking for crack and hookers and even then they just go to Lawrenceville. I also think they should make the fountain at the Point squirt jelly instead of water and turn the Mon into a chocalate river just like Willy Wonka's. President Cowboy and Ricky Boy could surely find some spare money floating around to fund it and just think of the tourism it would generate. Better yet we could turn the Allegheny into a peanut butter river and be the most delicious city in America.

I am sure Santorum try to rally support for the tunnels by naming the inbound train "the Cowher Special" and the outbound train "the Fetus Lover Express".
