Bad Movie Monday: They Live
The
premise of They Live
is not that bad. Aliens are already amongst us disguised as humans and they
are trying to take over the world. One small problem for the aliens: They can
be seen if humans are wearing sunglasses. Therein the premise takes a turn for
the worse.
The second problem they have is "Rowdy" Roddy Piper in his sunglasses. He tries to convince some guy to put on some sunglasses so he can see the aliens. The longest and most meaningless fight in cinematic history ensues. This scene must be seen to be believed.
Best Line: "I came here to kick ass and chew bubble gum and I'm all out of bubble gum." - Roddy Piper

The fight between Piper and that black guy, who was also in Platoon, is hilarious.
Posted by: Dan at August 25, 2004 1:39 PMTHIS is the best line:
"Wooooooo. It's like a drug. Wearing these glasses gets you high, but you come down hard."
The fight scene is symbolic in every way. Look past the bad acting and try to see what John Carpenter is trying to convey. He's trying to tell people to look around and see what happening in our everyday world and to see what is really happening behind the scenes. Once you've "taken the red pill" to see how deep the rabbit hole goes, then you'll realize that the fight scene symbolizes the average persons reluckence to see the truth, regardless of how it is presented. In other words, if the media and everyone else tells that the sky is falling, you'll believe it. If someone tries to tell you that its all lies, most people would think you're the crazy one, the conspiracy theorist.
Well, its time to wake up, and put on your sun glasses
