Smoke-Free Pennsylvania?
A busy body politician is trying to make all bars and restaurants smoke free in the state of Pennsylvania. On the bright side, in a few years you won't have to think for yourself anymore. I'm a non-smoker and this kind of nanny state policy makes me sick.
Posted by Matt Niemi at July 20, 2004 2:04 PMI am a non smoker but damn thats crazy cant help think of a few songs such as Rage "land of the free who ever told you that is your enemy" Metallica "you can do it your own way as long as you do it just as we say" we still live in the best country but damn we could do much better Sad thing is since i was in my early 20's I see the person in the white house as irrelevant let me ramble on about our fine government for all u fan of MATTNIEMI.com I currently live in a area that lives on the steel industry so you can imagine the depression i see ...I was in the steelworkers union for about 7 years so what is one of the last things Mr draft dodgin pot smokin slick willie CLINTON do before he leaves office!?!?!? he gives billions upon billions to Chinese steel companies!!!! as western PA northeastern OH remains most likely one of the most economic depressed areas because American steel mills haydays are way gone but they sure are not gettin any help from the leaders of this fine land and y is that?!?!?!? sad thing is the union always backs the democrat way to help the workin man out slick willie
Posted by: D Niemi at July 21, 2004 9:26 AMi think no smoking in bars is great, but ive been to places in cali and nyc that still let you smoke anyway. no big deal. sometimes the bar clouds in pgh can get so thick i wanna stop drop and roll.

I think the smoking ban is a great idea. Now if we could only get bars to stop serving alcohol and unhealthy food, I could live forever. Also a helpful hint to jurgen. You don't have to stop drop and roll. They have recently been installing these devices in Pittsburgh bars called "Exits". In some of our finer establishments, you can even use the door you came in for instant relief.
Posted by: Joshua at July 24, 2004 12:09 PMi do like the non smoking rule for i wear contact lenses and they dry up rather quick in a smoke filled bar but yes Josh ur correct dont stop drop and roll walk to the nearest exit we have them up here in Mercer county also and i know of 2 restaraunts that r completely non smokin in Mercer county Combines and Applebee's both in Hermitage i just hope one day they (the government) does not try to take my guns away !!it would not be pretty
Posted by: D Niemi at July 25, 2004 10:12 AMDoesn't it come down to whether a minority of patrons in a bar or restaurant (smokers) have the "freedom" to control the air-quality for everyone who works in or patronizes the place?
Posted by: J. Troy at August 2, 2004 12:59 PMnot to bring this all back, but yeah, i do know about the exits. and i use them frequently.
if there was a smokeless cigarette, that would be so good. people who drink alcohol or eat gnarly food dont (usually) dont inrude on the health of people nearby. (unless they throw up on them or something.) thats the only issue i have with smoking. i dont hate. but after seeing what the long tem effects have been on some of my family, i just try to avoid the overdose of second hand smoke i seem to get in bars.
I'm 57 yrs old and smoked until i was 32. If people want to commit slow suicide, let them.
Second hand smoke is not only unhealthy, but a very unpleasant odor. I've even had smokers tell me that they enjoy going to smoke free bars (New York State) because they don't have to air their clothes out and take a shower after being out all night.
Bar owners and patrons alike were complaining in New York when the law first came into effect. Now, it is business as usual but much more enjoyable for the non-smoker.
The smokers say that there is nothing worse than a reformed smoker. I say, there are only two kinds of smokers. Stupid or Addicted. If you aren't addicted, then why don't you quit?
